Students alleged HoD demanded bribe to pass the exam

Three former students who pursued post graduation degree at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC) claimed the Head of Department (HoD), ophthalmology, of mentally harassing them and demanding bribe to get them pass the exam. The dean, Dr Ajay Keoliya sent the complaint letter to secretary of medical teaching department and asked them to probe the matter. As per the complaint, it has been alleged that the HoD of Ophthalmology department, Dr NG Raut harassed the students both mentally and financially.

A PG student of who passed the exam in 2016, came forward and submitted a complaint application to the dean office last week. Following him, the other students are also showing up to raise their issues with Dr Raut. The three students have sent their complaint to the Dr Keoliya through an E-mail. Students alleged the HoD of demanding the stipend of an entire month in order to get them pass the exam.

As per the sources, a female student even paid her one month stipend to the HoD. But she could not pass the exam. When the news circulated in the college, it raised eyebrows and panic among the students. Surprisingly, the same student cleared her exam, this time without paying any bribe, in year 2018.

Besides, it has been suspected that the number of students who have complained, might increase in coming days. Also, it has come to fore that Dr Keoliya sent a letter to the HoD asking for reply, few days back. But because he did not replied in satisfactory manner, dean passed on the probe to Dr Tatyarao Lahane.

On Monday, Dr Keoliya will meet Dr Lahane regarding the matter. We received the complaint through E-mail. Acting upon it, I have asked the teaching department to begin probe into the matter, informed Dean Mayo, Dr Ajay Keoliya.

All the allegations are false. It is not in my hands to pass the students, so there’s no point of accepting or demanding bribe. I object that why the students did not raised this issue then and there. Why it took so long for them to file the complaint?, Dr NG Raut
