Government Medical College and Hospital (Medical) dean Dr Sajal Mitra has speed up the work of long awaited Cancer Hospital due to which approval for the grant of 76 crores 10lakh has been processed for its construction work. He has formed the construction committee.
The committee went on for the inspection of National Cancer Institute on Jamtha road along Wardha road. The responsibility of the construction of the building for Cancer Hospital of Medical has been given to Nagpur Improvement Trust.
The announcement of the construction of Cancer Institute in Medical was made by the then chief minister Prithviraj Chavan in 2012. But the institute remained on the paper until now. The court in June 2017 had issued directives to build the Cancer Institute within two years while disposing off the public interest litigation(PIL) that was filed in this regard. Significantly, approval was granted to have the institute with 100 beds capacity in the relevant meeting. It was agreed that the State minister of social justice Rajkumar Badole will make the necessary funds available.
While the fulfillment of all the necessary technical aspects was done, there was a proposal for consideration of the OPD of the institute. But later on this proposal had fell back. Meanwhile the Medical Education and Drugs department on 18 December 2018 had omitted the term ‘cancer institute’ through issuing an ordinance.
It was said that the administrative approval was granted for upgradation of Radiotherapy section of Medical and creation of most advanced facility for the treatment of Cancer.
Concurrently administrative approval has been granted to the construction of 76 crores 10 lakhs 58 thousand under the upgradation. Instructions were also issued for getting the work done from NIT under the supervision of Urban Development Department.
Dr Mitra after assuming the charge of dean took the initiative for the Cancer Hospital. He formed a committee of senior doctors under his own chairmanship.
The committee on Friday carried out the inspection of National Cancer Institute on Friday. According to the sources it is understood that the construction map will be created following the inspection report submitted by the committee.
