Top seeds Sairaj Nayse and Fizza Akbani won U-10 boys and girls singles champions in the Baidyanath Nagpur District Badminton Championship organised by the Nagpur District Badminton Association, at the Subhedar Hall here on Sunday.
In the boys final, Sairaj quelled the spirited challenge of fourth seed Anirudh Bhat with a hard-fought 21-16, 17-21, 21-12 victory in 35 minutes.
The U-10 girls singles crown was bagged by Fizza Akbani. She defeated second seed Anvee Wajgi 21-13, 21-9 in 25 minutes.
Top seed Shruti Chokhandre downed unseeded Aditi Zutshi 21-7, 21-9 to enter the women’s singles final. She will now clash with second seed Aditi Tadas, who got the better of her practice partner Shreya Nandanwar 21-12, 21-16.
It was a smooth sailing for top seeds in the men’s singles. Top seed Gandhar Nawale will face Samarjit Panday, while second seed Nabeel Ahmed will lock horns with Hriday Deshmukh in the semis.
In the U-17 girls singles, top seed Nikkita Joseph, second seed Pinak Rokde, Ananya Durugkar, Chaitali Nayse, Aditi Tadas, Kripi Sajwan and Vidhi Athilkar entered the quarterfinals. Top seed Aditya Gadge, second seed Jeeva Pillai, third seed Varun Kolte and Ameya Naktode sealed last four spots in the U-13 boys singles.
In the girls section, top seed Krisha Soni, second seed Nishika Gokhe, fourth seed Vidushi Tayal and Anvi Raut booked semis spot. Unseeded Tanishq Borekar shocked fourth seed Ojas Gedam 15-21, 22-20, 21-13 to enter the U-15 boys singles semis. He is joined by Devesh Jena, Arnav Arya and Sanvik Chaudhari.
All the top seeds – Aasavari Khandekar, Pinak Rokde, Kripi Sajwan and Nehal Gosavi had no problem in reaching the U-15 girls singles semis.
