Passengers of a Nagpur-bound flight were left stranded after their flight was diverted to Raipur in Chhaittisgarh due to bad weather in the city. According to details, IndiGo Airlines flight 6E 305 was scheduled to land at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport Nagpur at 4 pm but it arrived here at 6 pm.
But, city was witnessing heavy rainfall at that time, and the visibility too had decreased well below the safe limit. There was a dark cloud cover all over Nagpur on Sunday. It is learnt that landing in that condition was not possible. Hence, the pilots decided to abort landing and sought permission to redirect the flight to nearest Raipur airport. The flight was granted the permission.
The passengers suffered great inconvenience due to the unscheduled landing. The flight took off from Raipur later in the evening and reached Nagpur at around 6 pm.
Meanwhile, another IndiGo light 6E314 from Nagpur to Chennai was also delayed due to bad weather.
The flight landed here at 3 pm. It was supposed to return to Chennai as flight number 6E314 at 4.30 pm. But due to bad weather it could not depart. Passengers had to wait at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport for nearly three hours. The flight finally departed at 7.30 pm.
The city recorded 17.2 mm rainfall till 8.30 am and 6 mm between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sunday. The entire region of Vidarbha is said to have witnessed mild showers.
As per the meteorological department, monsoon has touched the cities of Ratnagiri, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur on Sunday. The department has also predicted rains in the next 48 hours and due to the rains, except Gondia, the temperature has gone below 40 degree Celsius.
