Our values are important because they help us to grow and develop. They help us to create the future we want to experience. Keeping this in mind and the need of the hour inculcate in children a sense of humanism and a deep concern for the well being of the Nation, a one-day workshop on Value Education was organised by Bhavan’s B.P. Vidya Mandir, Ashti recently.
The resource persons were Anju Bhutani, Principal BVM, Civil Lines and Rupali Dey, Vice-Principal, Modern School. They talked about value and its building blocks, teaching competencies, the whole school approach for value education etc.
They conducted many activities and interaction to lay emphasis on lesson planning in such a way that the values are caught by the students and not taught. They explained the 5 steps approach- knowing Making Judgements, Believing, Action and Internalization.
They said that teaching in class should be such that the learner should be led to a stage where the practice of acquired value may be spontaneous and immediate leading to acquired positive behavioural patterns and outcome.
The students were briefed about strategies which can be designed to enhance learning. They said that a teacher should not only verbally define and communicate the value in the classroom but also model them in his/her conduct. The teacher should be aware that her/his attitude, behaviour-pattern and actions can strongly influence her/his students.
The workshop was very interactive and lots of activities were conducted throughout the day. The workshop was attended by teachers of BVM, Ashti and other schools. The Principal Smt. Vandana Bisen congratulated the Resource persons for a successful workshop. The vote of thanks was proposed by Hiba Quazi.
