The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has stayed the demolition of Sheetla Mata temple along Amravato road near Regional Transport Office. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had issued demolition order and sent a notice to the temple trust to vacate the land. The notice was issued on June 27. It stated that the temple was constructed on the government land and needs to be demolished. It was also kept in the ‘B’ category by the NMC. Trust had filed a plea before the high court challenging the NMC order.
An HC bench comprising Justice Ravi Deshpande and Justice Vinay Joshi while hearing the plea stayed demolition of the temple till further orders.
The petitioner has claimed that the temple was constructed before 1960 and hence NMC has no right to demolish it. The HC has sought NMC reply in two weeks.
