An impressive 20 minute Tabla solo act was presented by Dr Deepak Khirwadkar director of South Central Zone Cultural Centre as they paid tribute to Dr Vasantrao Deshpande during the 28th edition of Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Smruti Sangit Samaroh. The performance was followed by Hindusthani Classical vocal session.
Noted Film Director Raj Dutt and President of Sanskar Bharti Kanchan Gadkari were the guest of the program.
The table performance which was presented by Dr Khirwadkar was a rare Eight Matra ‘Ashta Rupak taal’, that was taught by Dr Vasantrao Deshpande while he was preparing for his PhD practicals along with this he also played  Relas, Tukdas and Peshkars.
Padma Shri Ravishankar Upadhaye gave presentation on Pakhwaj along with Rushi Shankar and Mahim. They were accompanied by Deepak Darkhedkar on Pakhwaj and Abhinay Ranade on Harmonium and presented Ganesh stuti, followed by Taal Chautal.
Pandit Anand Bhate, a renowned Hindusthani Classical Vocalist then took up Raga Marubihag for a detailed delineation. Raj Dutt, a Film Director remembered his old times when he made Dr Vasantrao Deshpande sing and act in one of his movie Ashtavinayak, which was a blockbuster of its time. Dutt even added that the Deshpande was a real hero behind the sounds of a Marathi play Katyar Kaljaat Ghusli and that his Sur and lyrics were attracted many of the audiences.
