In the 17th edition of the Homeless World Cup 2019 team, India comprises of Both men and women football showed an outstanding performance against the International team. The world Cup was held in Cardiff Wales in the iconic Bure Park from July 27 to August 3.
A press conference was held on August 21 at press club to felicitate Team India.
Secretary, Krida Vikas Sanstha, Vijay Barse who runs an academy of Slum Soccer informed that eight men and women players were selected from across India.
The men’s team faced against Germany, Egypt, Costa Rica, Netherland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Coratia, Greece and Australia.
The final match was splayed against Germany and Team India managed to defeat them by 6-4 and lifted the Dragon Cup. Team India ranked 24th among 50 nations, while the woman team faced USA, Netherland, Hungary, Romania, Sweden, Peru and Belgium. The team gave a tough fight to all the International Teams and managed to secure 7th position in the list of 20 Nations.
Vijay Barse informed that the teams were distributed in 6 categories and Team managed to win the prestigious Dragon Cup for our country. “We are also planning to organize a Homeless World Cup in the coming years and wish that the kids should learn and join the clubâ€.
