Dr. Madhavi Khode Chaware, I.A.S. has been honored with the Indian Express “ Excellence in Governance “ Award in the category of Child development for her work on “ creating awareness of Prevention of Sexual Harassment in tribal ashram schools ‘during tenure as Additional Tribal Commissioner ( Nagpur).
The work consists of the creation of awareness about the Prevention of Sexual Harassment through a short film titled ‘Jagruti’ for the tribal Ashramshala, a code of conduct ‘Jivhala’ for the staff Ashramshala.  These “balsakha-balsakhi†are the children of Std 8-9th who acted as a bridge between children and the school administration to reduce the communication gap.
These efforts were recognized and recommended by the Adhoc Committee of the government of Maharashtra which was specially created for recommending the steps to prevent sexual harassment in tribal shalals.
The award has been recently conferred in Delhi in presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Ravi Shankar Prasad Minister of Law and Justice, Ramvilas Paswan Minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution and Jitendra Singh Minister of State.
This award was awarded for the very first time under the leadership of Vivek Goenkar Chairman and Managing director of the Indian express group.
The Jury for the award was Former Chief Justice of India Mr. Lodha including cabinet secretary of India. The selection process for the award was rigorous which include several layers of assessment and verification. There were more than 250 entries of IAS officers from across India, among these Madhavi got excellence award.
