The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has recently commenced a drive to identify plots, occupants, and issues of ownership to slum dwellers on lands owned by the state government. Under this drive, around 71 localities are identified, among them, some slums have situated in core commercial areas of the city which are included in the list of notified slums.
Areas like Mahal, Sitabuldi and even Sadar are identified as notified slums. Besides this, 33 nonexisting areas like Sanjay Nagar, Timber Market zopadpatti are also on the list of notified slums. The NMC has recently issued the list, when the civic body started the process to provide ownership to slum dwellers.
As per the NMC’s sources, the state government never provide a final list of notified slums, because every time the list was revised. Due to this, the civic authority is not able to make a complete identification of the slums under this category. And now, NMC will submit a proposal to state government regarding the revised list of the slum areas and to get the names checked again of the developed areas.
