A guideline and a standard of green crackers were formed by the CSIR- National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) along with petroleum and explosive safety organisation, central pollution control board and the union ministry of environment, forest and climate change. These cracker are especially made to reduce the emission of particulate matter by 30%. These crackers have been officially launched by the union minister of science and technology Dr Harsh Vardhan, but still there is no trace of such firecrackers in the city. Just few shops in Nagpur are selling green crackers that too in areas like Ram Nagar, Gokulpeth and Sadar. Even while selling these crackers the shopkeepers are confused with the green categories of crackers and are seen handling over green colored crackers.
The green crackers are supposed to have QR code on the boxes, which will indicate the chemical composition of the crackers. These codes are seen invalid when scanned and just a random three-digit code is displayed. These crackers are having a mark of NERRI but seemed to be fake crackers as Stanco traders and standard fireworks have the same logo present and same chemical compound.
