7th International Principal Education Conference (IPEC) was held at Deshpande hall, on November 21. The event was organised to bring out the best among the teachers and to felicitate the hardworking educationalist who has been supporting their school children with not just studies but also preparing them to face the world.
The hall was seen jam-packed with the diligent personalities, rather who should be called the new age gurus who have been active helping kids in and outside their education centers.
Sonam Wangchuk, who is widely known as Phunsuk Wangdu, a character in the Bollywood film 3 Idiots, was invited as the chief guest in the conference.
Wangchuk was also felicitated for his great initiatives in teaching the children of Ladakh and bring out the best from a region that was once marked as a union territory and had a very low passing percentage in the 10th class exams.
Besides Wangchuk, teachers from the city schools were also felicitated. Vice Principal of Modern School, Rupali Dey along with the principal of era international, royal Gondwana, and Varsha Shirole and Bharti Jawalkar from south point given the Nachiketa Award during in IPE conference. Super Nachiketa award was given to Kanika Anan and the winner of IPEC was Manisha Salonke, supervisor of South Point School.
During his speech, Wangchuk told the dignitaries and guests that at this age we have limited our education to just a degree and getting a job but in real it is not about race or money. We have all lost track of our ancient education system and accepted the western culture even for education.
He also mentioned, that during the industrial revolution while building the factories we converted our schools into factories producing like-minded students.
It is important to have science and maths as a part of the education but it is also important to have the kindest heart at the same time, said Wangchuk. Further adding up to his speech, he mentioned his childhood days that, I never really was into studies and was called an outstanding student because I actually used to stand out of my class half of the time.
Wangchuk also showed few videos of how he and his team are building schools and universities in Ladakh to educate its population with the help of their government and asked the present audience to join him in his fight to save nature.
