To mark its golden jubilee year, Volleyball Association, Nagpur and Anand Nagar Sports Association are jointly organising Maharashtra State Inter District Volleyball Championship from January 9 to 12 at Anand Nagar Sports Association ground, Reshimbagh.
Addressing media, president of the association Vijay Dangre said the matches will be played on three courts in morning, afternoon and evening sessions.
The winner in the men’s and women’s categories will be richer by Rs 31,000 whereas the runners-up will get Rs 21,000. Honda Unicorn bike will be given to best player in the men’s section whereas best player in the women section will be awarded Activa.
Dangre said 36 men and 25 women team will participate in the tournament on league cum knockout basis. As many as 90 matches will be played in four-day tournament.
Deputy chief minister and president of Maharashtra Olympic Association Ajit Pawar will inaugurate the tournament on January 9 at 7 p.m. Sports and youth welfare minister Sunil Kedar, home minister Anil Deshmukh, MLC Anil Sole, MLA Mohan Mate, Vikas Thakre, Raju Parve, former MLA Rajendra Mulak, Sagar Meghe, Ashish Deshmukh, corporator Divya Dhuradle, Prashant Kambde, senate member Adv. Abhijit Wanjari and Girish Pandav will also grace the occasion.
The prize distribution function will be held on January 12 at 8 p.m. Union minister Nitin Gadkari, former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, mayor Sandeep Joshi, MLAs Vikas Kumbhare, Krishna Khopde, Tekchand Sawarkar, Sudhakar Deshmukh, former minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, DSO Avinash Pund and deputy director of sports Subhash Rewatkar will remain present on the occasion.
Players will stay at MLA Hostel. Secretary of Volleyball Association, Nagpur Sunil Hande and others were present at the press conference.
