The civic body of city all set to take strict action against the property tax defaulters as the civic chief Tukaram Mundhe has warned the defaulters to pay the outstanding amount or be ready to go to the prison. There are 6.13 lakh properties in the city out of which 4.43 lakh property owners have outstanding taxes of Rs.514 crores.
As per information, about 1.10 lakh owners have collectively paid Rs.60 crores while 3.33 lakh owners owe the Nagpur Municipal Corporation(NMC) Rs.454 crores.In view of this, civic chief directed the tax department to take action.
Earlier, the NMC has given many reminders to defaulters.However, they have failed to pay the outstanding amount. And he urged the citizens to pay their property tax regularly otherwise face strict action. As per source, there are 172 defaulters who owe over Rs.5 lakh in taxes and the collective outstanding amount is Rs.176 crores.In which Container depot owe Rs.28 crore,Inox-Rs.18 crore,VNIT-Rs.20 crore and Mihan-Rs.20 crore.And NMC is trying maximum to dispose the cases as this is the main source of income of the civic body.
