After hearing a PIL, the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed manufacturers to give two helmets to customers, who buy bikes. If the orders were not followed, the court directed to stop registration of the bikes by the concerned company.
Earlier in the last hearing, the HC had summoned Tajshri Motors, Sudarshan Motors, Rishikesh Motors,Arun Motors, Nagiya Motors, KTM Motors,Kusumagar Motors, Paragon, AK Gandhi Motors, Maskat Motors, Universal Motors, JayakaTVS, Unnati Hero, Hero Motors, Indrayani Motors,Patni Motors and Advid Automobiles totaling 17 dealers to be present in court personally on February 12. The court had also asked why two helmets are not given along with the bike.
And the dealers submitted a joint affidavit, in which they stated that the manufacturers were not providing the helmets. Hearing this, the HC directed the transport commissioner to order the manufacturers to follow the rules and gave six weeks time to give the report.
