Recently All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)department of Community Medicine conducted health camp at Nandanvan slum area in view of the public health importance of cancer and increasing burden of this disease. As per information, Community Health Workers (ASHA, Anganwadi Workers and Mahila Arogya Samiti Members, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and Staff Nurses) were trained on breast self-examination technique.
A pamphlet was distributed to all the participants regarding breast self-examination methods (in local language). A health education session was organized involving local slum dwellers and community health workers. Health talk covered common cancers prevailing in the community, risk factors, prevention and facilities available for management. Stress was given on myths and facts in relation to cancer.
A total of 40 slum dwellers and 27 health care providers participated in the program that day. A Rangoli Competition was arranged where the theme was “Cancer: I am and I will” (slogan of World Cancer Day 2020) where community members along with health care providers participated. A total of 14 teams prepared Rangoli on that theme. Best performing teams were encouraged with prize.
