Recently the social organisation Janmanch has appealed to the State Government to reconsider the decision to grant interest free loan of Rs 30 lakh to all legislators for purchasing vehicles. The decision was taken during budget session of the State Legislature.
There are 366 legislators in the Assembly and Council. The total amount of Rs 109.80 crore will have to be given and the Government will have to shoulder the interest of Rs 11 crore, at the rate of 10% per annum. Paying salary of their drivers at the rate of Rs 15,000 per month has also been considered. This will put additional burden of Rs 7.58 crore on the State Exchequer.
The local area development fund for the legislators has also been hiked from Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore. With the Government consistently under heavy debt, this step appears shocking.
The farmers in the state are committing suicides because of allegedly wrong policy of the Government.
