Having suspended passenger services on Sunday (22nd March 2020) following the continued Corona Virus (COVID-19) scare, Maha Metro has further taken the major initiative. From 23rd March 2020 (Monday) Maha Metro Nagpur would operate train services from 8 am to 11 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm.
The Metro trains would operate at 30minute frequency, as announced earlier. This decision has been taken as part of Maha Metro’s consistent efforts to cut down non-essential and avoidable travel. Maha Metro has already issued an advisory for its commuters which urges citizens to travel only in case of emergencies.
Metro services would operate from 8 am to 11 am to provide transportation services to those traveling from home to office, especially those associated with providing essential services. Similarly, afternoon services from 4 pm to 7 pm would fulfill the transportation needs of those returning home after office hours. This would cut down on the non-essential travel in the afternoon hours.
Such a move would cut down on non-essential travel, which is aimed at encouraging the public to maintain social distancing, which is essential in the fight against COVID-19. As per government orders, Malls, Restaurants, Hotels, Shops are already shut down. This move has been aimed at avoiding mass public contact and ensure that people stay indoors.
