Having suspended passenger services on Sunday (22nd March 2020) following the continued Corona Virus (COVID-19) scare, Maha Metro has further taken the major initiative. From 23rd March 2020 (Monday) Maha Metro Nagpur would operate train services from 8 am to 11 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm.

The Metro trains would operate at 30minute frequency, as announced earlier. This decision has been taken as part of Maha Metro’s consistent efforts to cut down non-essential and avoidable travel. Maha Metro has already issued an advisory for its commuters which urges citizens to travel only in case of emergencies.

Metro services would operate from 8 am to 11 am to provide transportation services to those traveling from home to office, especially those associated with providing essential services. Similarly, afternoon services from 4 pm to 7 pm would fulfill the transportation needs of those returning home after office hours. This would cut down on the non-essential travel in the afternoon hours.

Such a move would cut down on non-essential travel, which is aimed at encouraging the public to maintain social distancing, which is essential in the fight against COVID-19. As per government orders, Malls, Restaurants, Hotels, Shops are already shut down. This move has been aimed at avoiding mass public contact and ensure that people stay indoors.

Maha Metro effort is an attempt in a similar direction to encourage the public to stay indoors and maintain social distancing, which is essential in the fight against COVID-19. Maha Metro has already announced the suspension of its services on Sunday (22nd March 2020) and reduced the frequency of its train from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

Right since the outbreak of the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic, Maha Metro, Nagpur has taken a series of initiatives to not just safeguard commuters but also to ensure that its staff is not exposed to this disease. The steps taken till now include fumigating stations, random checking of employees for any symptoms, to name a few.

The move to cut down passenger services is another effort to prevent the spread of this disease and thus to protect citizens from this disease. Maha Metro’s efforts to sensitize citizens and ensure non-essential travel have been welcomed by Nagpurians.
