Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut has written a letter to union energy minister and demanded to withdraw the proposed Electricity(Amendment) bill -2020 of the union government. He termed the bill as anti poor and anti farmer. He pointed out that the policy of eliminating the cross-subsidy entirely will affect residential, agricultural and BPL consumers.
He also raised that every state had different consumer mix and state specific needs of cross subsidy to particular category of consumers. In proposed Electricity Bill, power tariff will be charged from consumers as per expenditure on power supply.
The consumers are bound to pay bill as no subsidy will be given. If any subsidy is to be given to consumers in power tariff,it will be deposited into bank account. This would not be adjusted in electricity bill.If user is a tenant, the subsidy will not be deposited into his account. This would cause financial difficulties for power distribution companies.
