After easing of lockdown restrictions under Mission Begin Again’ citizens have failed to adhere to guidelines which ultimately increased numbers of COVID19 positive patients in city. And in view of this situation, Municipal Commissioner put forward another lockdown in the city. Backing the idea of civic chief for another lockdown in city, Mayor Sandip Joshi, however, filed a caveat, saying public representatives should be first taken into confidence to have the desired effect on citizens.
As per information, continuous loathing on part of some people of wearing masks while in public places, and blatant disregard for social distancing also have created major concern. The failure of citizens to self-discipline has resulted in sudden spike in novel coronavirus whose infection is spreading. In this backdrop, Municipal Commissioner warned that administration might have to go for lockdown in near future. Mayor said, “Though lockdown is welcome move, it hurts the poor and daily wagers the most. “In case markets get closed the poor people cannot be left to starve. Hence, he suggested that Mayor and Municipal Commissioner should jointly survey the markets to monitor the situation. The move would ensure that traders take note of the joint move by political establishment and administration and ensure that they take all necessary precautions at their establishments.
This would ensure that there is no need for lockdown in city. Further, Joshi suggested that before going for lockdown, if the same is unavoidable, civic administration should hold talks with city police administration, MLAs, MLCs, and District Collector, Office bearers of NMC, Members of Parliament (MP), and then chalk out any strategy. The public representatives would also help administration in spreading awareness before deciding on lockdown.
