District collector Ravindra Thakare has warned that the people opposing the funeral of COVID19 victim in local crematorium will face action under the provisions of Disaster Management Act as well as the Indian Penal Code. The number of COVID-19 patients and deaths is increasing in Nagpur district. In many cases, COVID-19 patients are kept in home isolation in accordance with the Government norms.
However, in some cases, the patients die. According to collector some instances had come to fore wherein the local residents opposed funeral of the dead patient in crematorium in the same area. This results in the grieving family members of the deceased suffering from physical and mental trauma in carrying the dead body to some other place. There are no directions against funeral of COVID-19 victims in local crematoriums. People are opposing funeral due to misunderstanding. It is necessary to create awareness among people. Also, it must be made clear that funeral of COVID-19 victims will be performed at crematorium in respective area, while following standard operating procedure. Those opposing funeral or creating hurdles will face action under relevant provisions of law.
