Chandrapur district in Vidarbha region has highest number of tigers in Maharashtra. The tiger corridor passes through many parts of Vidarbha. The tiger lovers are now demanding that chief minister should form a committee for study of hurdles in tiger corridor and clear them. Tigers cover thousands of kilometres while moving in search of new territory, a recent journey of a radio collared tiger from Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary has proved.
Tigers use their traditional tiger corridors in their journey for safe habitat. But these corridors have been affected due to various reasons causing danger to tiger habitat. This has increased possibility of danger to human settlements and man-animal conflict situation. To prevent further damage to tiger corridors, the government and forest department will have to take steps to secure safety of these tiger corridors. Many canals and, state and national highways passed through forest areas. The increasing number of tigers is also seen in buffer zone of tiger reserve. And the tiger corridors are getting affected due to canals, railway routes, mines, roads and human encroachments.
