THINK GLOBAL – EAT LOCAL -A ROAD TO GOOD HEALTH ” , was the messege promoted by Dr Pratima Shastri . She was the mentor at Gramayan Pratishthan’s virtual programme Gyan Gatha and shared her wisdom on the topic, “DIET AS AN INVESTMENT.”
She mentioned that every cultures respects food , as it sustains life, but food also represents pleasure and emotions.
Our traditional diet is in harmony with local environment and full of nutrition.
Just as a good investment is one which gives timely and expected returns; a nutritious diet gives the returns in the form of good health. High child mortality in India is a matter of concern and can be overcome by proper maternal nutrition and highlighted the importance of Calcium and Iron in the diet of women.
She explained the concept of wholesome food with right proportion of all nutrients , and junk food that provides empty calories. She also suggested the the ways
to identify junk food and importance of reading labels , using traffic light example and to watch the quantity and frequency of eating such foods . It is suggested to assess the facts in fictitious television adds, nutrition values and cost. Each and every family member should be aware of these guidelines act accordingly. Dr Shastri emphasised to strike balnce between traditional and modern dietary science.

Dr.Shastri also answered the questions posed online by the participants with interesting examples .
