Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University’s Chicken and Egg festival in Nagpur was inaugurated today.
The festival was inaugurated by Sunil Kedar, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Maharashtra.
The motive of the festival is to allay the fears of the disease killing humans as the poultry industry has complained of heavy losses due to the avian influenza (bird flu) scare.
Kedar said bird flu is not fatal to humans and if any one found spreading rumours in this regard would have to face severe action.
Meanwhile, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued guidelines on safe handling and consumption of meat and poultry eggs amid the bird flu scare.
