Reeth Rishya of The Suburban Table Tennis Association (TSTTA) defeated compatriot Divya Deshpande also from TSTTA 11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-9, 12-14, 11-9 in the women’s singles final of the Dr Ramesh Prabhoo Memorial 82nd Maharashtra State Table Tennis tournament, organized by The Suburban District Table Tennis Association and played at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul, Vile Parle, Mumbai.
In the final contest between Mumbai paddlers, Reeth showed better control and produced a stellar performance to emerge champion.
Earlier, Divya recovered to send her teammate Madhurika Patkar crashing out coasting to 4-2 margin winning by 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 win in the semi final.
The other semi-final was a contrasting affair as Reeth tamed had things much her own way against teammate Vidhi Shah and cruised to a straight games 11-9, 11-2, 11-9, 11-4 victory.
In the quarter-finals, Divya got the better of Mumbai City’s Mansi Chiplunkar with 4-1 win as she stormed into the semis.
In another quarter final match, the experienced Madhurika thumped Anannya Basak in four straight games, while in an enthralling third quarter final, which went down to the wire Vidhi Shah downed youth girls’ singles champion Divya Chitale 4-3. In the last quarter-final, it was Reeth who got the better of Manushree Patil also of TSTTA in four quick games.
