Nagpur district fencers performed well and won several medals in the recently held 31st Senior Maharashtra State Fencing Championship at Nanded.
In the competition Nagpur won five medals and two fencers have been selected in Maharashtra team for forthcoming nationals.
Nagpur won three medals in team competition and two in individual events. Shruti Joshi and Harshada Damkhondwar won a bronze medal each in the individual event.
In team competition (Foil) Harshada, Damini Rambhad, Ashwini Tembhurne and Mansi Dhande won bronze medal. Similarly in the boys section (team) Monal Bagde, Ankit Gajbhiye, Avesh Somkuwar and Abhilash Barapatre won bronze medals.
In the sabre team event, Shruti Joshi, Vinyani Umate, Monali Kumbhare and Ashwini Tembhune won bronze medals.
Shruti and Harshada have been selected in the Maharashtra team for national competition which is going to be held at Uttarakhand from March 17.
District Sports Officer Avinash Pund, Association president Ajay Sontakke and others congratulated all the winners.
The medal winners give the credit of their success to coach Parikshit Gohiya, Rahul Mandavkar, Nandkunal Dhanvijay, Akash Thakre, and Nagpur District Fencing Association Secretary Mohd Shoeb.
