Nagpur is witnessing a huge spike in daily COVID cases even though the cases are rising at a faster pace people seem to have forgotten to follow the pandemic rules and risk their lives as well as others. The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Gandhibagh zone today found about 40 customers shopping inside a shop on the occasion of Gudi Padwa and flouting COVID norms.
When NDS approached the area and asked to open the lock of the shop they found that there were more than 40 customers at the shops purchasing on the festive day Gudipadwa. Moreover the area is sealed and is declared as contaminated zone, but the shop was operating in disguised as it was locked from outside.
The NDS squad from Gandhibagh, lead by Assistant Commissioner Ashok Patil, when raided the shop and forcefully opened the lock, everyone was surprised to see such a number of customers. The staff of the shop was also inside the shop and the sale was going smoothly without any fear.
This has raised a big question on the behavior of people as authorities are working hard to avoid lockdown and to curb the virus but such incident is proof why the civic authorities are failing to curb the rapid spread and under the pretext of lockdown is such working of the shop is permissible? Though the owner of the shop might have paid the penalty, where are we following the SOP’s, where is the fear of an increasing number of positive patients daily? But the most important part is that the area where such activity was carried out is a hot spot.
Today Nagpur reported 6826 fresh COVID-19 cases and continues to record number of positive cases due to the dreaded virus. Meanwhile, 65 people succumbed to the infection in the day taking the cumulative death count to 5903.
Of the 65 deaths, 36 were the residents of Nagpur district while Nagpur rural reported 22 deaths. Today addition of new cases took the tally to 291043.
