RashtrasantTukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University could be the first university in the state to get Centre for Excellence in Higher Studies, in Forensic Sciences.
Director of the Institute of Forensic Sciences Dr Sanjay Thakre stated that application for getting the Centre for Excellence has been moved. The Institute, affiliated to RTM Nagpur University was started in the year 2011. Several of its students have cleared SET and NET examinations. The research facility, however, is not available here.
The institute conducts under-graduate and post-graduate courses and some post-graduate diploma courses. It is an important institution in Nagpur and is one among three in the state. The other two institutes are one each in Aurangabad and Mumbai. It also has collaboration with Government Forensic Laboratory, Nagpur and National University of Forensic Sciences, Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
So far the Institute has produced six batches of post-graduate students. Out of 120 students, 33 have cleared SET and NET examinations. This is best result in entire nation.
The students and teachers have been following the issue with the government through the University Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari.
