Apart from COVID-19 infection, a total of 439 cases have been registered in various private and government hospitals who are suffering from ‘Mucormycosis’ another life-threatening fungal infection commonly seen in COVID and post-Covid patients.
The sudden increase in the number of patients suffering from ‘Mucormycosis’ saw a scarcity of a crucial medicine Amphotericin B injection used in the treatment of the fungal infection.
Citing the shortage of medicine at present 1,150 vials has been procured and supplied in Nagpur districts. Since Amphotericin B is not available in private medical stores, it has been directed to supply the medicine to the private hospital in consultation with the government hospital.
Private hospitals can obtain the drug by paying the required fee and contact the office of District Surgeon Nagpur regarding the price of Amphotericin B Liposomal.
In addition, Maharashtra-based Genetic Life Sciences on Thursday began manufacturing Amphotericin B Emulsion injections, used for treating Mucormycosis or black fungus. The distribution of the injections will begin from Monday. The price of these life-saving injections has been cut down and will be available at Rs 1200.
