Certificate in Gender, Agriculture and Sustainable Development (CGAS) is a 6 months programme open for any graduate. Women play a significant role in Indian agriculture from the sowing of seeds, harvesting crops and post-harvest value-addition. Due to gender inequalities in society, women lack ownership, access and control over resources and lack decision making. Gender inequality is inbuilt in our society due to patriarchy, so in all spheres of our lives, including agriculture. Subordination of women has become a way of life. With the changing pattern of agricultural activities and the mechanization of agriculture, women’s role in agriculture increased, especially among small and marginal farmers. Even though industrialization has changed agricultural activities, still women have more labour intensive farm activities such as weeding and harvesting.
Dr. Sivaswaroop stated that Due to COVID-19 conditions, IGNOU has increased the online activities. All the Admission process, Re-registration, Counselling Classes, exam form submission etc. are made online. The study material is also made available in Digital form under e-gyankosh. IGNOU offers fee concession, if students opt for Digital Study Material. Online classes are held through Gyan Darshan, Swayam Prabha, TV Channels, Gyan Vani Radio etc. During lockdown, the students are confined to houses and there is lot of communication gap between students and institution. In addition, programme specific grievance redressal meetings are held with students concerned.
