The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s wife Aarti for questioning in connection with a money laundering case. Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer, Kamlesh Gumre, on Wednesday informed that Aarti was asked by the agency two days ago to appear before it on Thursday. Earlier, Hrishikesh Deshmukh was also summoned in the case.
“As far as we are informed, Aarti is a housewife and has no connection with the case. ED’s case is based on a statement by arrested former cop Sachin Waze. Waze had filed an affidavit before the commission in which he said something else.
The statement to the CBI and ED is different from what he informed in his affidavit. It clearly mentions there was no money given to Anil Deshmukh nor to his PA Kundan Shinde,†said Gumre.
Gumre said that Anil Deshmukh felt this investigation was not justified, hence he was not joining the investigation. “The investigations are based on allegations and we are providing documents whenever asked for. Pramabir Singh’s allegations are not true.
The High Court has also questioned Singh why he had been silent for months,†added Gumre. She has been directed to appear at the ED office tomorrow at 11 am for questioning, informed Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer Kamlesh Ghumre.
