Two leopard cubs were found dead near a road in Jatlapur villag in Sindewahi Forest Range under Brahmapuri Forest Division on Wednesday morning.
A press note issued by the Deputy Conservator of Forest, Brahmapuri, said that field staff members while on patrolling duty noticed bodies of two leopard cubs in the village. Prima facie it appears that a tiger attacked both the cubs and killed them, which is evident from the tiger’s pug-marks nearby and injuries on the bodies of the cubs.
Upon getting information, forest officers, Bandu Dhotre, representative of National Tiger Conservation Authortiy, Vivek Karambelkar, Honorary Wildlife Warden, Brahmapuri, and staff members rushed to the spot. Later, a post-mortem was conducted by Veterinarians Dr Surpam, Dr Santosh Gaware, from Sindewahi, and Dr Parag Khobragade from Navargaon.
The exact cause for the deaths of two leopard cubs would be known once post mortem report is made available. The carcasses of both the cubs were consigned to flames at the spot in presence of the officers and representatives.
