In a drive conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to curb the spread of spit in the hospital, around 3 bottles of liquor were seized from the relatives of the patients along with 475 kharra pouches.
To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the State has ordered punitive action against those who spit after eating paan, tobacco and kharra in public places under the Epidemic Control Act.
Accordingly the AIIMS medical superintendent Dr Manish Shrigiriwar directed the security guards of the hospital to take strict action against those who smoked, tobacco and cigarettes inside and around the hospital premises.
From October 25 to 29, total 475 kharra pouches, 3 bottles of country liquor, 40 lime boxes, 37 packs of bidis, 85 packs of tobacco and 23 pouches of paan masala were seized. The material was later destroyed in the presence of senior doctors.
Spitting in the hospital, spreading dirt is a crime. This includes provision for punitive action under the Epidemic Control Act. The security guards have been instructed to check the relatives of the patients coming to the AIIMS and confiscate the tobacco from them, said AIIMS director Major General Dr Vibha Dutta.
