MAFSU Convocation 2021: Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur conducted its 10th convocation today (10th November) for 1253 students through a virtual as well as physical ceremony on Wednesday.
The entire convocation was streamed online on YouTube. The University held its 10th Convocation ceremony at Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Sabhagrugha.
In this convocation, the degrees are conferred and medals are awarded to the graduates of the academic year 2018-19, 2019-20 for veterinary, dairy technology and fisheries graduates and for the year 2020-21 to the graduates of dairy technology and fisheries.
A total of 1253 candidates including 939 graduates, 275 post-graduates and 39 doctoral candidates have received the degrees. Apart from this, 59 gold medals, 15 silver medals and two emeritus awards with a cash prize of Rs. 25000/- each are awarded to the students for their outstanding academic performance in this convocation. Further out of total 74 medals and two cash prizes, 22 medals and one cash prize have been grabbed by the girl students. It is noteworthy to mention that; Ritu Panghal from Nagpur Veterinary College has bagged seven gold and four silver medals for the year 2018-19 and Nambiar Jasna Suresh from Mumbai Veterinary College, Mumbai has received 5 gold and one cash prize for the year 2019-20.
Congratulating and wishing the best to all the degree recipients and medal winners, Hon’ble Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi lauded the students community’s exceptional maturity, teamwork, and leadership skills in helping to elevate the faculty and profession.
He, in his speech, stated, “ Life will not always be easy and will require making difficult choices from time to time … I wish you all the wisdom and the courage to take decisions and bear their consequences.†He further said that the science aimed at improving the life of the common man standing on the last strata of the society and universities can play an important role in this regard. “Researches should not be limited to getting papers published in reputed journals or promoting academics, but for the betterment of the society,†said Dr. Mande.
Dr. Mande further asked the students to adopt the doctrines laid by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and refrain from sins.
Dr. Mande also appealed to the authorities as well as the institutes of higher studies of the University to implement employable courses as per the new technique. He also called upon the experts of the University to conduct research on the sustainable and high productivity of the livestock. He also applauded the efforts of the central Government in facing the challenge arising out of the pandemic.
Eventually, Dr. Mande recognized the efforts of the faculty during the recent pandemic on the count of COVID-19. He also urged an expedition further research in zoonotic diseases.
Hon’ble Sunil Chhatrapal Kedar, Pro-Chancellor of the University and the Minister of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, Sports and Youth welfare, Govt. of Maharashtra presided over the function and conferred the degrees on graduates.
The Minister, foster the students to excel more in research and ultimately elevate the farmers from poverty. The Minister stated that the world is changing at a very fast pace. One must meet these challenges and seek fresh opportunities for employment. For this the youth needs to equip itself and develop their own capacities and faculties to the full. We need a fresh perspective and attitudinal change.
A degree is no longer a passage to certain employment. There is a need to add new skills with latest technologies. Innovation and creativity are the keywords of success. He further, urged that, the Animal is the highest creature they not only provides the backbone to the agriculture but also support the livelihood of the peasants. The Minister place on the record the word of appreciation for the University and its endeavor in the threefold activities i.e. Education, Research and Extension.
He also urged the student to develop as many ways of increasing employment in the country as possible. Dr. Col. Paturkar, the Vice Chancellor of the University commended the student and appealed them to excel in the research with full exuberant. He asked the students to have a hunger of research. Only with the help of continuous education, the country can triumph on poverty. The education is the superiority of knowledge over ignorance. He further applauded the efforts of university scientist who have been engrossed in research to such an extent that, indeed, one day the river of honey and milk will flow throughout the length and breadth of the country.
The Vice-Chancellor summarized the achievements and the developments of the University briefly. The ceremony was concluded with a vote of thanks by the Registrar, Sachin Kalantre.
