In all 554 voters exercised franchise on Friday in the biennial elections from Nagpur Local Authorities Constituency for electing Member of Legislative Council (MLC).
Four corporators of NagpurMunicipal Corporation and one each from Zilla Parishad and Kampte Municipal Council did not cast their votes. One of them was not allowed to vote by the presiding officer. The reason, however, is not known.
Enthusiasm in the election defused on Thursday evening, when Congress rejected its official candidate Dr Ravindra Bhoyar and announced support to Mangesh Deshmukh, contesting as Independent. Counting of votes will be held on December 14.
Out of 273 male voters 271 exercised their right, whereas 283 female voters out of 287 participated in the process. For the sake of statistics the voting percentage was 98.93, informs R Vimla, District Collector and Returing Officer for Nagpur
Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Congress supported Independent candidate Mangesh Deshmukh and Dr Ravindra Bhoyar were in the fray.
The voting is preferential pattern and Bawankule is considered to be clearing the quota of votes in the first round itself.
