Students of the Department of Mass Communication, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, participated in a hands-on Photojournalism Workshop at ‘Flower Fest 2021’ in Hislop College on Saturday.
The workshop, that exposed students to different aspects of still life and nature photography, was conducted by professional photographer and faculty member of the department, Abhijeet Sahu. The objective was to train students to capture news-worthy photographs at such events.
The Botany Department of Hislop College has been organizing the show for the last 18 years. A large variety of flowers, flower arrangements and ornamental plants were on display.
In the introductory session, Mr. Sahu explained the concept of macro and still life photography which come into play in such events and settings. He instructed the students on the use of lenses, different camera settings, the use of natural light, colour settings and shooting angles to make the photos stand out. The art of capturing visitor reactions at such an event was also explained.
A special feature of the workshop was that photo composition and other elements were taught by using the cameras in normal smart phones and not just professional DSLRs. The students were given spot assignments and their work was checked and instructions given for improvement.

The Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Moiz Mannan Haque, thanked the Principal of Hislop College, Dr Prashant Shelke, and Head of the college’s Botany Department, Dr. Mousumi Bhowal, for their cooperation and support to the workshop.
