The Standing Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has instructed all the departments to achieve the target of recovering taxes till March 31 in order to increase revenue of the corporation.
Prakash Bhoyar, Chairman of the committee. Issued the instruction while taking a review regarding tax position held in his chamber on Friday. The meeting discussed recovery of taxes by Market, Advertisement and Urban Development Departments.
Shrikant Waikar, Executive Engineer, Shrikant Vaidya, Market, Amol Pande, General Manager, OCW, and others were present in the meeting.
While appealing to the citizens to clear their taxes, Bhoyar put forth problems of the citizens regarding water bills and asked officers to check the fat bills of the people and reduce them. He also said that if NMC implemented a scheme to give concession in the water bills then the NMC would earn additional tax amount of Rs 15 crore.
The chairman also took review of tax collection position of Water Works and other abovesaid three departments.
The target for water tax recovery this year is set at Rs 195 crore for 2021-22 financial year and out of it Rs 125 crore has been collected so far. Last year, the revenue of Rs 162 crore was collected by way of water tax. Around 36,000 citizens had taken benefit of Abhay Yojna, informed Shrikant Waikar.
The target of tax recovery Market Department for 2021-22 is rs 10.60 crore while it Rs 86.19 crore for Urban Development Department.
