Pratapnagar Police Station register an FIR against a person for felling a mango tree at Navnirman Society in Pratapnagar when the Garden Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation lodged a complaint on Friday.
It is reported that Amol Chaurpagar, Garden Superintendent, noticed illegal felling of the tree by one Yashwant Madhukar Shende and sent Inspector Ananta Nagmote to Pratapnagar Police Station for lodging a complaint under section 21 of Tree Protection & Preservation Act, 1975.
According to information, Shende had not sought any prior permission from the department to fell the old mango tree having a girth of 69â€. Shende is alleged to have cut the tree by employing a gang of Banjara labourers.
Nagmote said in the complaint that this gang was active now-a-days in Manewada and Shesh Nagar Road and indulging in felling the trees.
Members of Green Vigil Foundation had made a complaint with Dayashankar Tiwari, Mayor, about on-going illegal felling activities in the city. Accordingly, Tiwari had asked the officials concerned to take stringent action against such persons to maintain glory of the city.
