In terms of street cuisine, gol gappas are without a doubt the most popular. Whether you call it Golgappa, Panipuri, Puchka, Batashe, or Gup Chup, the fact that there are so many different names for the same meal only goes to show how much we adore it! They’re adaptable, allow for a lot of experimentation, and they’re delicious. But, more importantly, I think we can all agree that the spicy pani stuffed in the puris is something we can’t get enough of. It tingles our taste buds and makes us always crave more. Would you ever attempt a pani puri with a mixture of cheeses? It seems like an odd thing to do with our traditional street food, doesn’t it?
Believe it or not, a street vendor is selling these cheese pani puris, which have made a lot of people angry.
We can see a street vendor putting cheese to the pani puri’s pani in a video provided by Instagram food YouTuber @food o logu nagpur. The video starts with a street vendor breaking apart a huge block of cheese. He then begins shredding the cheese on top of roughly five pani puri’s pani containers. “What are you adding?” the blogger asks the vendor in the video, to which the merchant responds, “Cheese ja rahi hai, kisi ko batana mat.” (Please don’t tell anyone, but I’m adding cheese.) Here’s a link to the video:
Since its release, the video has received 619,900 views, 39,900 likes, and hundreds of comments. As one of the users put it, “Street food wale har ek dish mein cheese dal rhe hai. Without any prior knowledge or experience… Panipuri ki bezzati krdi panipuri ki bezzati krdi panipuri ki be (These days, street vendors put cheese on everything without thinking about it or tasting it.) This is a slap in the face to pani puri.)”.
Well, the process of discovering new foods and re-creating old recipes will continue. What are your thoughts on the cheese panipuri? Would you ever give it a shot?
