The Corona pandemic has increased awareness about the pulmonary disease and also about the specialised branch in medicine dealing with lungs and related respiratory problems. The treatment to various diseases has become easy with this growing awareness, said Dr Sameer Arbat, noted pulmonologist.
Talking to The Live Nagpur Dr Arbat said that the common pulmonary problems are related to allergies and asthma. The rise in problems related to lungs is attributed to a change in lifestyle.
With the growing pollution, allergic issues are increasing. The cause of pollution could be different, but dust allergy is very common. This may be because of rise in vehicular traffic, growing construction work, industry and residential areas coming in close vicinity, power generation plants etc.
If neglected the dust particles deposited into the lungs can damage the lung cells, which can lead to lung fibrosis or even cancer. Lungs being the powerhouse of all the systems in the body, the smallest damage to them can affect all body parts. Therefore healthy lungs increase the body’s inbuilt immune system, Dr Arbat said.
Another issue that is being reported commonly is heavy snoring. The major cause of snoring or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) also boils down to changing lifestyle. The fallout of the changing lifestyle is growing obesity, reduced sleeping hours, smoking or alcohol abuse. The entire life circle surrounds a healthy lifestyle. The major cause of snoring is stated to obesity. The problem can be sorted out by proper sleep study.
Dr Arbat is keen on guiding the patients on all kinds of sleep disorders and respiratory system problems.
“Improving lung functioning is the key to healthy body functioning and increasing inherent immunity†according to Dr Sameer Arbat.
