Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Surface Transport, Â performed bhoomipujan of a double decker water tank, first of its kind in the country, on Thursday at Meharbaba Nagar, Chikhli-Khurd, Prabhag no: 34.
The water is being erected on behalf of Nagpur Municipal Corporation in order to provide smooth water supply to localities newly developed and without pipelines in South Nagpur under the Central Government’s Amrut Yojna.
Dayashankar Tiwari, the Mayor, Mohan Mate, MLQA, Manisha Dhawde, Deputy Mayor, Prakash Bhoyar, Chairman of Standing Committee, Avinash Thakre, Ruling Party Leader, and Rajendra Sonkusre, Chairman, Establishment Committee, were the guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Gadkari said, Nagpur is becoming one of the beautiful cities in the country. All the areas of the city are being developed through Nagpur Municipal Corporation. He said, the concept of double decker water tank has come forward from double decker fly over. This will help supply water to to citizens by storing more amount of water in less space. NMC has made an arrangement that would not bring scarcity of water to the city for 25 years, he pointed out.
In his address, Tiwari said that NMC started works of 12 water tanks in 12 months and laid a pipeline upto 130 km. Moreover, as many as 98,000 new water connections are given to the people. He expressed confidence that this double decker water tank would solve water problem of the citizens from this and nearby areas.
Vijay (Pintu) Zalke, Corporator and former Chairman of Standing Committee, made introductory remarks while Mate also expressed his views. Praveen Thakre conducted the function while Rajendra Sonkusre proposed a vote of thanks.
Kalpana Kubhalkar, Chairperson, Hanuman Nagar Zone, Nagesh Mankar, Madhuri Thakre, Mangla Khekre, all Corporators, Prfadip Khawle, Chief Engineer, Manoj Talewar, Executive Engineer, Dr Shweta Banerjee, Executive Engineer, and others were present.
