A major power failure in parts of Manish Nagar and adjoining Jai Durga Society led to a power cut for more than 12 hours.
The power supply was disrupted around 3 am on Saturday. A major power-supplying cable got burst in the wee hours and many residents had to wake up too early. Many of them were seen moving in galleries or terraces of their apartments. It was difficult to make enquiries during those hours. A spark was seen near Jai Durga Society, adjacent to the railway line.
It was expected that the power supply will be restored in the morning. But as the temperature started rising after 8 am, people started making phone calls to the fault centre and officers concerned. As usual, they were unable to reach us. Mobile phones of many could not be recharged. No mobile phone, no fans and coolers, no air-conditioner, no television on the weekend accompanied with Nagpuri high temperature added to irritation of the people in that area.
Later it was made known that the main cable burst and will have to be replaced. Replacing the cable is not very easy and entire machinery had to be put to work for replacing the cable. After suffering for almost the entire day without a power supply, the power was restored around 4 pm.
The people of Manewada and Wathoda suffered a couple of days earlier. A continuous power failure has refuted the claim of the Energy Minister that power supply is smooth even during high demand.
