A shocking report of negligence has come forth from Nagpur as four thalassemic children have been tested positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) after a blood transfusion.
According to preliminary information, it is said that among the four children one has died. The four now HIV-positive children were provided blood for the treatment of Thalassemia.
The state health department has set up a high-level inquiry into the matter.
A committee will be constituted by the health administration to inquire into the matter and strict action will be taken against those involved.
“4 children tested positive for HIV, out of them one died. Will take action against it. The inquiry will set up,†Dr. RK Dhakate, Asst. Dy. Director, Health Department. He said the Food and Drugs Department (FDA) has also started a preliminary investigation into the case.
