Nagpur Smart & Sustainable City Development Corporation Ltd (NSSCDC) will purchase robot for cleaning and maintaining manholes in the city without sanitatary workers requiring to enter in them for the purpose.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the Board of Directors of NSSCDC and passed the resolution in order to provide relief to the workers from the risky job. The meeting was held online in which Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Mentor and Chairman of Smart City, from Mumbai was present virtually.
Chinmay Gotmare, Chief Executive Officer, NSSCDC, informed that manual scavengering has been banned as per the order issued by the Central Government. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has 10 jetting machines and 4 suction machines that help cleanse sewer chambers on big roads. It is difficult to use them at narrow roads and hence this robot cleaning system would prove effective there, he added.
Moreover, there was a proposal for setting up of a STP plant of 20 MLD capacity at Pohra river in Narsala for treating waste water that would help clean Pohra river. The board of Directors has now approved the project, said Gotmare.
Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, Aniruddh Shenvai, Ashish Mukum, Members, Bhanupriya Thakur, Company Secretary, Neha Jha, Chief Finance Officer, and others were present.
