The development Boards of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Rest of Maharashtra will be reconstituted. The important decision was taken during the Maharashtra Cabinet meeting on Thursday evening.
Although the Cabinet meeting of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is considered to be the last one, 11 important decisions were taken in the meeting. Reconstitution of the Development Boards is important and has been delayed by about one year.
Former Advocate General of Maharashtra Adv Shrikari Aney told a TV news channel that the delay on the part of the Government has caused great loss to the region, which is facing several serious problems. The funds for sorting out the problems was not made available during this period.
Adv Aney, a staunch supporter of separate Vidarbha, welcomed the decision. He also stated that a petition is pending with the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court. On Thursday itself the lawyer appearing on behalf of the Government sought more time to take decision on the issue. In the evening, however, the MVA Government took the decision to reconstitute the Development Boards.
The Boards were created to remove the backlog of development of the backward regions of Maharashtra. Vidarbha faced continuous neglect and the demand of carving out a separate state of Vidarbha was raised. Adv Aney is one of the leaders of the separate Vidarbha movement.
