Mumbai is receiving heavy rainfall and several parts witnessed heavy waterlogging on Tuesday. The city recorded 95.81 mm of rain in the last 12 hours.
The IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rain in Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours, with a possibility of very heavy showers at isolated places.
In view of heavy rainfall five National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in Mumbai and other parts as orange alert issued by the IMD, officials said.
Out of the eight NDRF teams in Maharashtra, one each is stationed at Nagpur, Chiplun and Malad, while the rest five teams are in Mumbai.
In the wake of heavy rains in Raigard and Ratnagiri districts, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed the district collectors to take necessary precautions. “CM Eknath Shinde held a discussion with Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava along with directing all the related districts’ guardian secretaries to keep a vigil and control the situation,” his office tweeted. Train and bus services have been affected on some routes due to flooding in the low-lying areas and railway tracks, reports stated.
