A delegation led by National OBC Mahasangh President Dr Babanrao Taywade met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and demanded deferring the municipal elections unless a reservation for OBCs is ensured.
The elections of 92 municipalities and four Nagar Panchayats were announced by the State Election Commission.
Dr Taywade informed them that the Banthia Committee has submitted empirical data about OBCs on Friday. The hearing on the OBC reservation is scheduled for July 12. The case is pending before the Supreme Court and the decision is likely to be announced soon. He also demanded that hostels for OBC students should be started immediately.
Former Union Ministers Bhagwat Karad and Hansraj Ahir, MLC Parinay Fukey, OBC Mahasangh Secretary Sharad Wankhede, Subhash Ghate, and Mukesh Nandan were members of the delegation.
