Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled his official residence in Colombo on Saturday, as a large number of anti-government demonstrators entered his residence and office. The demonstrators demanding his resignation ransacked the residence.
Rajapaksa along with his family members fled the residence to move to a safer place. The officials of security services have confirmed his fleeing the residence. Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa also had to face the violent demonstrators on May 11. He too with his family had to move to a safer place in Lankan Naval Base.
Sri Lanka is facing the worst economic crisis. People have been demanding Gotabaya’s resignation for failure in overcoming the crisis. A large number of people staged demonstrations for removing Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Friday. On Saturday the demonstrators became more aggressive and entered the President’s house premises and ransacked it. Looking at the mood of the demonstrators Gotabaya fled the residence along with his family members.
An indefinite curfew was imposed on Friday itself. The demonstrators, however, ignored it and entered the President’s residential premises.
