Mazi Metro is becoming lifeline of Nagpur city day by day. Around 60,000 people travel by the metro and it is expected that the number would increase to two lakh gradually. Metro has become necessity because of the increasing number of passengers, said Anil Kokate, Maha Metro Director (Strategic Planning) on Thursday.
The District Information Office organised a web discussion programme in cooperation with technical cooperation by Maha IT on ‘Changing Nagpur and Role of Mazi Metro in traffic System’. The event was organised under the guidance of district administration to mark Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsava. At the outset, R Vimla, District Collector, welcomed Kokate.
Kokate further said, Maha Metro largely contributed in the city’s public transportation system. The passengers save expenditure on their vehicles while the metro helps in keeping city pollution-free. It is expected to use less vehicles in the green city concept, he said adding that metro utilised 60 per cent solar energy.
Mazi Metro would prove instrumental in achieving all round progress of the city. It is planning to create 38 km travel length with 38 metro stations that would result in three lakh people taking benefit, he pointed out. Moreover, it is observed that the road accidents decreased due to metro and providing safety to the people. The common man can afford to travel by metro in the scenario of rising prices. Maha Metro is developing the network in whole of the city and it is making efforts to start one metro in one minute. It has also developed two urban forests in the city, Kokate pointed out and said metro station would prove landmark in the city in the future.
