Good news for Nagpur as Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will build a smaller version of the cable-stayed bridge at Ajni railway station which will connect Central Avenue to Kingsway (Ram Jhula).
The 8-lane bridge was included in the detailed project report (DPR) of Ajni IMS (intermodal station) project, the contract for which got cancelled recently.
However, the condition of this bridge is already weak and getting worse. It needs to be reconstructed to make it stronger and wider. Therefore, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to get this work done now.
According to reports the life of the existing railway overbridge of Ajni station is over. The movement at the bridge, which connects Medical Square to Wardha Road has also increased significantly as compared to earlier. On Thursday, a meeting was held in the municipal commissioner’s office regarding this issue. Officials of national high way authority of India (NHAU) and Railways attended this meeting.
